Please come back soon (and often) to find out all the new things our website will offer.
In the meantime, these are the things we're working on for this page . . .
Our guiding vision today is the same as it was when St. Mark's formed on January 24, 1971.
To glorify God;
To call and nurture disciples of Jesus Christ;
To meet human needs in our church, our community, and our world.
Back then, Central Florida was just beginning the building boom that has grown Altamonte Springs from pioneer citrus farms to the bustling suburban area it is today. For fifty years, St. Mark's has been an active participant in the Altamonte Springs community.
1970s - St. Mark's was established as a traditional yet progressive congregation and first met in a storefront. Not long after, the current church building was erected. In 1978, St. Mark's joined with other area churches to establish the Christian Sharing Center, which still operates today as The Sharing Center in Longwood. The church also established a school that quickly gained a positive reputation for academic excellence and nurture.
1980s - 1990s - St. Mark's prospered and steadily grew in membership, hitting a peak in the 1990s with more than 300 active members.
2000s - 2010s - St. Mark's remained steady, but as much of the nation began to decline in the Great Recession, so did St. Mark's. With a devoted membership and reputation as a friendly church, St. Mark's carried on and powered through.
Today - St. Mark's has seen many changes in the last fifty years, but some things remain the same -- commitment to love God with our whole hearts, souls, and minds, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. As we enter our next fifty years, we look forward to all that God will accomplish in and through St. Mark's Presbyterian Church. The best is yet to be!
